Commodore Connection Webinar Series

This summer, you received the First-year Commodore Connection email and webinar series, our parent communication initiative that debuted in May and included seven emails and webinars designed for first-year parents. Our goal with this project is to assist parents by providing in-depth information about various campus services, keeping you up to date on critical deadlines and providing information about resources available at Vanderbilt. You can watch any webinars you missed at our archives page.

What did you think of this series? Your feedback will help us make this project even better for new parents in the coming years. Please share your insights by taking this five-minute survey.

Later this month, you will begin receiving our monthly Commodore Connection e-newsletter. It features campus news concerning students, upcoming campus events and other information important to parents, including dates and deadlines.

Family Weekend 2016 is September 23–25!

Family Weekend is the perfect time for students, parents, grandparents and siblings to reconnect. You'll have the opportunity to meet with various deans, administrators and faculty, and also have time to stroll across our beautiful campus and soak up the Vanderbilt atmosphere. You can view the full schedule and register online on the Parents and Family Programs website. Online registration will be available until Friday, September 16, at 5 p.m.

Opportunities to volunteer

  • Host a regional care package party: Help host and/or organize an event for parents to assemble care packages to send to their students before the holidays or during exam time.
  • Participate in career networking events for students: If you are interested in advising students, volunteer to participate in the Career Conversations networking event during Family Weekend. Your company can also participate in recruiting events on campus.
  • Volunteer for on-campus events: Work at the registration table during Family Weekend or answer questions, pass out brochures and assist families of first-year students during Move-in Day.
  • Assist Admissions: Help Vanderbilt admissions counselors in your area at college fairs and programs.
  • Be an ambassador for study abroad: If your student studies abroad on a Vanderbilt program and you are interested in sharing your knowledge and experience with other parents, you can become a parent ambassador for the Global Education Office.
  • "Home for the Holidays": Host Vanderbilt international students in your home during Thanksgiving and/or winter break. Many of our international students remain on campus during the holidays, and they would welcome the opportunity to experience American holiday traditions in the home of one of our current Vanderbilt families.
  • Assist Alumni Relations: Help host and/or organize Summer Send-Off Parties for new students and their parents or guardians.
  • Mentor new parents: Welcome first-year and transfer parents in your region.
